The Burrowers Theatre Company currently IS accepting submissions for The Burrow Read-Through and Talk-Back Series!
Thank you so much for your interest in The Burrow, our original play reading and talk-back series! The Burrow is dedicated to nurturing the voices of both emerging and established playwrights by offering a platform to hear their script through vocal performance and to get constructive feedback on their work. This single-night eventis designed to support playwrights through a process that includes two phases: The Table-Read and The Talk-Back.
These events generally kick off with a live or live-streamed Table-Read of your script featuring a cast of talented Chicago-Local performers. This phase allows playwrights the opportunity to hear their characters speak and interact in realtime. These readings are generally attended by a mix of invited guests, members of the general public with an interest in theatre and new works, and members of The Burrowers’ creative team. This experience gives the playwright a sense of how their play might be received by an audience as is and how performers might embody their characters.
Following the Table-Read of your play, we transition into Burrowers Talk-Back session. This is a talk-back session guided by our Resident Playwright that seeks to ask the right questions to get you the feedback that you need to make your script even better. Feedback is given constructively with the intent to highlight your script’s strengths, offer insights into potential areas where there may be room for improvement, and discuss the effectiveness of the themes and narrative of your piece.
We invite playwrights at any stage of their career to submit their plays to The Burrow. Whether you’re looking to hear your work read for the first time or are seeking feedback on a work-in-progress, The Burrow offers a supportive and constructive environment to help your play reach its full potential.
